I love most of the bands that came out of this particular scene, and Heretoir is a particular favorite. There are great slow, mournful passages here, ambient moments with muted pianos, some blastbeats-and-bellowing sections that are still more morose than aggressive, and even some epic clean singing, all in service to a unifying concept album about the conflict between wilderness and machine.

The atmosphere of this album is fantastic. Makes you feel like you're knee-deep in the trenches drenched in mud, filth, sweat, and blood. Truly encapsulates the horrors of World War I, and the fact that the lyrics of some of the songs are taken from old war letters really adds to the authenticity. This album is so good! Short and atmospheric intro followed by almost 50 minutes of energetic, freezing, highly infectious black metal that's mainly defined by Lethian's powerful, emotive and rasping vocals as well as a plethora of swirling, fantastic riffs interwoven with simple, but stunning melodies! Dedicated to the Night is a prime example of all these elements coming together and being further enhanced by Matunos' clearly discernable bass and Farliath's ferocious drumming! What a gem!
